October 2008 Month End ChiroNews Round Up
planetc1.com-news@1:09 pm PST
It's Halloween 2008, time for scary movies, unhealthy candy, and even some last-minute Halloween costume ideas, for those of you that have waited up until this point to decide on your costume. After all the Halloween parades, parties and other festivities settle down, don't forget there's still a President to elect this coming Tuesday. Not only that, depending on where you live, it's time to turn the clock back on November 2 (Sunday), for daylight savings time. We're wrapping up the month here at planetchiropractic.com with a review of ChiroNews posted during the last 30 days. Wishing a thankful November to you all!

Halloween Mischief and The Office
planetc1.com-news@1:14 pm PST
Tomorrow is Halloween and hopefully your chiropractor won't be wearing any of these five dangerous choices of Halloween costumes. And by the way doctors, being lazy and pulling out your old clinic stethoscope and dressing like a nutty surgeon or MD, is probably a bad choice as well. For those that practice on Friday, hope you're planning to have some good fun on the 31st.

32 Chiropractor Businesses For Sale and the Changing Economy
planetc1.com-news@9:33 pm PST
Checking my Google feed reader over the weekend I was stunned to see more than 30 chiropractic businesses had been listed for sale in classified ads posted on planetchiropractic.com. I don't know if it's a sign of our changing economy or just a popular time of year for chiropractors to begin listing practices for sale. I know I've never seen 30+ practice listings posted in such a short time before. Checking today I noticed the current number of businesses listed for sale in the United States tops 780. That's a whole bunch of chiropractic offices.

Proposition 8 and others on California State Propositions
planetc1.com-news@9:22 pm PST
Voting yes on Proposition 8 would eliminate the rights of same-sex couples to marry in the state of California. It's a hot issue here in Los Angeles, one I have been hearing people talk about more frequently as we get closer to election Tuesday. We've really been trying to avoid the discussion of politics in the office, but the topic on at least a few of these propositions has come up more than once during adjusting hours in our chiropractic clinic. Are things this crazy in your state?

NVIC Says Government Denies Gardasil Risks
planetc1.com-news@1:58 pm PST
The National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC) is calling on the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to publicly release the study design, data and names of principal investigators involved in a statement this week maintaining that Gardasil vaccine is safe with no serious side effects. NVIC will also be calling on the newly elected President and members of Congress to remove the nation’s vaccine safety monitoring system from the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and place it in a separate entity reporting directly to Congress to restore trust in the nation’s public health laws based on federal mass vaccination policies.

Obama Public Benefit Package and Universal Health Care Plan to Include Chiropractic
planetc1.com-news@8:52 pm PST
Amongst a ginormous amount of today's news, including everything from Plumbers for Obama and people seeking copies of an Obama Birth Certificate, there was a single news piece regarding Barack Obama on Chiropractic and Medicare. Later today, the planetchiropractic.com office received an e-mail from a chiropractor on the East Coast which included a 2nd PDF file with a letter from Obama on chiropractic care and his proposed universal health care plan.

Barack Obama on Chiropractic and Medicare
planetc1.com-news@9:31 pm PST
According to email reports, Illinois Doctor of Chiropractic, Gary R. Street, has been attempting to collect from the top presidential candidates their exact position in regards to chiropractic and especially Medicare, for the last six (6) weeks. Apparently the task has not been such an easy job, since one presidential candidate reportedly refuses to reply with a written position. The only official response as to a presidential candidate position on chiropractic and Medicare is from the office of Barack Obama.

An Interest in the Study of Chiropractic Work
planetc1.com-news@4:16 pm PST
Several interesting e-mails appeared on my desk last week, and I didn't get a chance to address two of them, which I felt were fairly important. I do my best to get to e-mails that have been sent (not perfect) and almost always get a chance to check out blog comments. Earlier today, I covered why some may be getting deleted or marked as spam, good topic for a Sunday thought post.

Too Bad Joe Was Not a Spine Plumber
planetc1.com-news@1:49 pm PST
Everywhere I've looked on the Internet these past 48 hours I've seen searches related to Joe the Plumber. It's reached the point that search engines are even suggesting related terms such as obama plumber and joe the plumber keating. What about all the "normal" plumber searches, like those seeking local plumbers, a plumber in Los Angeles, or a plumbing drain specialist in San Diego? I have to imagine the search traffic in the plumbing industry has significantly been affected these past few days, likely clogging some plumber web sites, with lots of new unexpected traffic.

Link Exchange Request And Other PC E-Mails
planetc1.com-news@7:05 am PST
Link exchange requests are a common e-mail received at the Planet Chiropractic office. I'm sure a large number of webmasters receive e-mails like these, and I suspect many of them are automated, and targeted at sites that appear on some list that has been thrown together at some point in time. In the past 10 years that I've been overseeing operations at planetchiropractic.com, I can't think of more than three times that we've actually agree to some sort of link exchange. Not that it wasn't a good idea at the time, it's just not something we did. Today, it's something we definitely don't do, nor is it something I'd recommend as a practice for any website owner, except in some specific instances.

Oct Nov ChiroCalendar Events and Activities
planetc1.com-news@10:45 am PST
This is the time of year chiropractors and other small businesses should be thinking about marketing for 2009. There are four events taking place during October and November (and one in early December) where chiropractors can gather together and hammer out marketing for the upcoming year. Make no mistake, there's going to be plenty of opportunity for chiropractors to thrive in 2009, but planning for what changes are expected to come is essential.

Oklahaven Have-A-Heart Fundraiser 2009
planetc1.com-news@9:12 pm PST
The Oklahaven Children's Chiropractic Center began in response to the needs of chronically ill children in 1962, many of whom in the early 1960s were paralyzed, in braces and wheelchair-bound. Oklahaven founders chose to provide chiropractic care through a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization. They relied on the generosity of the private sector who shared the children's centers vision of natural drug-free healthcare and of other chiropractic colleagues to donate their services.

Bank Repo Spinal Decompression Table Blowout
planetc1.com-news@12:42 pm PST
Has the sky finally fallen on the spinal decompression market? The title of this article "Bank Repo Spinal Decompression Table Blowout" was exactly the headlines seen in my e-mail spam inbox this morning. Somebody's looking to move some spinal decompression units and I imagine banks don't want to get stuck with worthless outdated inventory. What's this mean for the chiropractic industry? Is the sheriff coming to change the locks on US chiropractic offices? Much of that depends on the chiropractor.

Patrick Gentempo Speaks at DCS Tuesday October 14th 2008
planetc1.com-news@8:27 pm PST
Attention Southern California Chiropractors: Dr. Patrick Gentempo, Jr. is speaking Tuesday night at the Dead Chiropractic Society (DCS) clubhouse in Orange County, California. The event is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. sharp. Chiropractors traveling from the Los Angeles area are reminded to check freeway closures related to potentially still burning Porter Ranch and other California wildfires.

Chiropractor Email Account Hacked
planetc1.com-news@12:44 pm PST
A chiropractors e-mail account was hacked early Monday morning, resulting in an emergency e-mail request for money being sent to his family, friends, colleagues, and even clients. The perpetrator requested that funds be mailed to Nigeria. It's unlikely that this was the only individual targeted and people are urgently advised to be on the lookout for similar looking e-mails.

Vaccine Freedom Rally & Lawsuits: Saving the Children
planetc1.com-news@6:52 pm PST
Yesterday morning, New Jersey Moms Louise Kuo Habakus and Claudine Liss of the New Jersey Coalition for Vaccination Choice appeared on Fox News (Fox & Friends) to talk about the vaccine freedom rally next Thursday (October 16) in Trenton in support of conscientious belief exemption legislation giving New Jersey parents the legal right to follow their conscience when making vaccine choices for their children. After the show, Louise and Claudine were invited back for an informal, spirited discussion about the epidemic of chronic disease and disability and the recent flu vaccine mandate instituted in New Jersey for all children.

Smarter Marketing in 2009 with Call Tracking
planetc1.com-news@3:11 pm PST
Regardless if you run an orthopedic center, a doggie day care clinic, or a chiropractic office, this is a good time of year to get your 2009 marketing plans on your mind. There's no doubt that what's taking place in our US economy is going to effect business incomes during the next several months. It's an important time of year to remain focused and keep moving forward in attaining your business goals. Too few chiropractors I've spoken to have become masters of tracking where their marketing dollar is working best. Again, it doesn't matter what kind of business you're in, keeping track of what's working (and what's not) may help you save essential advertising dollars in the upcoming year.

Recipe for New Graduate Failure
planetc1.com-news@12:06 am PST
What's already been a standard concern for many young chiropractors graduating from school and opening new practices, is likely to be intensified in the coming months, thanks to the credit crunch and downturn in the US financial markets. It's tough enough starting up one's new chiropractic business, with the situation were currently faced with in the US marketplace, and the mindset many businesses and consumers are currently in. The last thing you want to get sucked into is Satan's sale pitch, better known as adding gadgets to your practice.

Miss Muscle Beach 1948 Receives 60 Year Anniversary Award
planetc1.com-news@12:37 pm PST
Muscle Beach in Venice California is the home to a yearly bodybuilding and fitness competition that takes place during the Labor Day weekend. Fitness, gymnastic, and bodybuilding related events have been taking place there since the 1930s. The original Muscle Beach was located just south of the Santa Monica pier, and now it's along Ocean Front Walk, just north of Venice Boulevard. This past Labor Day, an Ironman sponsored event took place, and a local fitness enthusiast received an award celebrating 60 years since she held the title as Miss Muscle Beach.

Thursday Thoughts and Thank You's
planetc1.com-news@8:51 pm PST
Looking at an earlier post today regarding classified advertisements I noticed an address being used was similar to one I'd seen in the past. In fact, it turned out to be the same exact address I'd seen used before in the United Kingdom. Thanks to those that have continued pushing forward.

A Surefire Way to Separate You from Your Money
planetc1.com-news@1:00 pm PST
Regardless of what's going on in the US economy, an activity that has not changed much is the practice of 419 phishing scams, e-mail attempts that target individuals with the goal of separating them from their money and personal belongings. If you buy or sell items online (using any website) this post may be important to you. What may appear as an innocent e-mail from someone wanting to purchase your Schwinn bicycle, Mac Airbook, or other item, is more than likely a fraudulent attempt to motivate you in shipping your product overseas, in hopes of a fast and profitable sale.

planetc1.com-news@8:20 am PST
A top 20 list of political contributions being made to members of Congress in 2008 shows Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama as receiving the most funds from chiropractors.

Chiropractors Donations to Democrats in 2008
planetc1.com-news@12:55 pm PST
For the first time since the 1994 election cycle, donation records show chiropractors gave more money to Democrats versus Republicans. Bill Clinton was president of the United States in 1994 and chiropractors political donations for that year showed 65% going to Democrats versus 34% going to Republicans. But for the following six election cycles (1996 through 2006), records show chiropractors made the majority of their political donations to Republicans, and it appears now 2008 is a time for change.

A Holistic Health Care Organization Worth Supporting
planetc1.com-news@10:19 am PST
With all the popularity of chiropractic care for headaches, back pain, and neck pain, the general public often misses out on care that addresses the needs of children and their families. We see the television reports regarding research studies showing upper cervical chiropractic care for the lowering of blood pressure, we hear testimonials from world class and Olympic athletes as to the benefits of them receiving regular chiropractic adjustments, we can even view online videos of TV hosts like Montel Williams giving testimonials on chiropractic care for conditions such as multiple sclerosis, but let's not forget the kids.

Alumni Association Lifetime Chiropractic Membership
planetc1.com-news@2:08 pm PST
Chiropractic schools and alumni associations require funding in order to stay in operation and for less than a $100,000 investment chiropractors can show support for the chiropractic college they graduated from. Even if you don't have a spare 100K to donate to your favorite chiropractic institution, there are a number of things you can do to show support for your alma mater.

Palin-Biden Who Won The Vice Presidential Debate
planetc1.com-news@9:34 pm PST
Who won tonight's vice presidential debate between Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and Senator Joe Biden?

Don't Watch the Vice Presidential Debate and Don't Vote
planetc1.com-news@9:36 am PST
The consensus among popular Hollywood celebrities is that voting is absurd, voting is ridiculous, and you should not vote. Continue playing Scrabble, online poker, watching porn, or whatever it is you do while at your computer. Don't believe me? Think I'm making it up? Check out this video and tell five of your friends.
