planetc1.com-news@8:57 pm PST The month of June featured lots of new chiropractic classified advertisements placed in the categories of practices for sale, chiropractic jobs, employment opportunities, and equipment for sale by private parties. Nearly all the practices for sale are listed in the United States, but there are some in Canada as well, and even some practices listed internationally. The Associates job wanted and job available categories have been fairly active during the month of June, and will likely continue to be so throughout the summer. Those using the categories for selling chiropractic products online once again advised to use common sense and be alert to potential scams.

While millions of people have bought and sold items, bartered goods and services, and even made pet adoptions, taking precautionary measures when using online services is still a good practice. Just as you would look both ways before crossing a busy intersection, applying basic steps to assure the party you're dealing with is legitimate, should not be discounted when using classified advertising websites. H1N1 Flu Formerly Known As Swine planetc1.com-news@1:54 pm PST Just when the flu "formerly known as swine" was losing its headline luster for being too mild and ordinary a bug, the first global influenza pandemic in 41 years was declared by the World Health Organization (WHO). On June 11, 2009 the WHO raised the pandemic warning to level 6, the highest possible alert.
planetc1.com-news@11:15 am PST More than 25,000 hit the streets for this years 2009 Seattle Marathon. Billed as the Seattle Rock 'n' Roll Marathon, runners and walkers alike, took to the pavement for 26.2 miles of outdoor rock and roll excitement.
planetc1.com-news@1:58 pm PST Continuing education for the chiropractic industry has some new locations coming this fall, thanks to expanding programs from the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association, in cities like Philadelphia, Minneapolis and Toronto. Planet Chiropractic received notification from the ICPA regarding their practitioner certification program, with news that the program is expanding to new cities in the United States and Canada beginning this fall 2009.

That's a Saturday, for those of you that haven't checked your calendar yet, and I'm thinking about making a flight from Los Angeles, because I love Focus Philosophy events.

"My crew is calling this the Canadian chiropractic tour!" was the tweet sent out last night from the twitter profile of rock and roller Randy Bachman. Bachman and crew are on a summer rock 'n roll tour of Canada, with chiropractors playing the role of pit crew.

I can tell you that today, everything has the potential to be newsworthy, as the world has become a constant flow of online information. Today we celebrate 10 years of consistent news content creation and there's times I wonder just what went on during the past decade. For you Internet old-timers that have been around creating content since previous to 1999, I salute you, it's a constant effort. It's Father's Day Sunday morning, and I'm already 3 posts up in preparation of the week ahead. There's more than a dozen articles outlined on the whiteboards lining my office, but I'm taking some time off for the rest of the day.

First Day of Summer 2009 planetc1.com-news@12:01 am PST The longest day of the year is here, Sunday is the first day of summer for 2009, taking us into the approaching summer solstice (June 21 at 05:45). In case you're wondering, the solstice is an astronomical event that occurs twice each year, when the tilt of the Earth's axis is most inclined toward or away from the Sun, resulting the Sun's apparent position in the sky to reach its northernmost or southernmost extreme. Opposite from Summer, the winter solstice is the shortest day of the year.

The series of seven world championship triathlon events began in May of this year in Tongyeong, South Korea. The second race was held May 30 and 31st in Madrid, Spain. planetc1.com-news@9:06 pm PST A new study has found that drugs used to treat attention deficit disorders may put kids at risk for of sudden death. The study, in the American Journal of Psychiatry, found an association between stimulant medications (like Ritalin) used to treat ADHD may cause sudden death in healthy children. In the past, there have been published reports indicating warning signs of danger. Last year, even the American Heart Association suggested the initiation of routine heart screening tests prior to starting children with ADHD on stimulant drugs and called for future studies to assess the risk of sudden death. The manufacturers of the drugs are still denying an association, with some refusing to comment to media inquiry. 2009 Lakers Parade Route and Photos planetc1.com-news@5:38 am PST The Lakers Parade Route is an easy one this year, as the 2009 NBA Champion Los Angeles Lakers make their way from the Staples Center to the LA Coliseum for a victory celebration. After much heated discussion as to who was going to cover city expenses for hosting such a parade, it is moving forward, with contributions made by wealthy Los Angeles residents and the Lakers organization. I love a parade!
planetc1.com-news@10:16 pm PST Adolescents taking stimulant medications such as Ritalin for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) could possibly be several times more likely to suffer sudden unexplained death when compared to children not taking such drugs, according to a recent study funded by the Food and Drug Administration and the National Institute of Mental Health.

That ends the NBA Finals series, with the Lakers winning four out of the last five games. There was some question about a Lakers Parade in Los Angeles this week, but it looks like it's moving forward. We had closed our chiropractic office for the 2001 Lakers Parade, and the 2002 Lakers Parade, so consider this a 3peat for us. Many patients in our office are Lakers fans, so we may as well be celebrating together in the streets. Lakers Magic Game 5 NBA Finals planetc1.com-news@3:34 pm PST NBA Finals Game 5 coverage begins tonight at 7:30 PM Eastern (6:30 PM Central) on ABC television and ABC HD. The Lakers Magic game begins at 8 PM in Orlando. The Magic are hosting their last game at home in this series. If there is a Game 6 it will be at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. If the Lakers win tonight, a Laker Parade will most likely take place on Wednesday, June 17th, in downtown LA.

If you have an analog TV, it's time to get a government coupon for a digital conversion box, so you can buy a converter and make the switch to digital. If you've gone online today searching to find out "what's wrong with my TV" you certainly won't be alone. While there's been a coordinated nationwide effort taking place for months, to educate consumers about the switch from analog to digital TV, millions of Americans may still not have gotten the word that today is the day to flip the digital switch.

Game 4 of the series is played in Orlando and gametime is 9pm Eastern. This is the 2nd game of the NBA Finals played in Orlando, the 1st 2 were played in Los Angeles. Game 5 will be played in Florida as well, on Sunday June 14th, starting at 8pm Eastern (5pm in LA).

The Lakers Vs Magic game today takes place in Orlando, the first away game for the Los Angeles Lakers, in the 2009 finals. The next three games are scheduled to take place at home for the Orlando Magic, with Game 3 being today, Game 4 scheduled for Thursday, and Game 5 (if necessary) scheduled for Sunday. Tonight's game is live on ABC television, beginning at 8pm Eastern time. That's five o'clock for folks on the West Coast. Tonight's game also features a performance from 2009 American Idol winner Kris Allen, an event that's become something of a tradition. Here in LA, Lakers flags are out on the streets, and the sports bars are decorated in purple and gold. Even local graffiti artists are showing some Laker pride.
planetc1.com-news@11:49 am PST Today is the final leg of the Triple Crown, taking place at Belmont Raceway, in Elmont New York. The 1.5 mile thoroughbred horse race has a post time of about 6:27pm, with live television coverage broadcast by ABC, starting at five o'clock ET. Growing up in Floral Park (just blocks away from Belmont), we spent many weekends at the racetrack. I was there in 1973 when Secretariat one the Triple Crown, although being eight years old, I remember the cartoons on the big screen better than the race. Now living in California, I'll watch Belmont live on TV, rather than walk to the track. Today's 2009 Belmont Stakes doesn't have a horse with a chance to be a Triple Crown Winner, but it does have a jockey, whose name is Calvin Borel (Kentucky Derby on Mine That Bird and Preakness Stakes on Rachel Alexandra). Belmont Stakes 2009 Post Time and Positions planetc1.com-news@3:00 am PST Mine That Bird and Calvin Borel will likely be the center of attention in the 2009 Belmont Stakes, at least until a horse and jockey cross the finish line. If they win the Belmont horse race, be prepared for more of the excitement seen in the 2009 Kentucky Derby, as Calvin has shown he's full of spizzerinctum. For jockey Calvin Borel (who rode Mine That Bird in the Kentucky Derby and Rachel Alexandra in the Pimlico Preakness Stakes), a win at the 2009 Belmont Stakes would be history in the making, with him becoming the first jockey to win the Crown on different horses. ABC television (with live belmont stakes tv coverage) would be happy about that too.
planetc1.com-news@12:02 am PST Or is it National Doughnut Day? Honestly, I don't know which is preferred. Doughnut or donut? Either way you spell it, they are still yummy. Happy National Donut Day! It's a long-standing tradition, apparently starting in 1938 as a fundraiser for the Chicago Salvation Army. National Donut Day is the first Friday in June (June 5, 2009) and I understand some national chains (like Krispy Kreme doughnuts and Dunkin' Donuts) are giving away goods (or offering specials) today. Buy some coffee and you may be able to get free donuts from the doughnut chains, or maybe somebody will buy you one. Either way, here's some info I rounded up on doughnut shops in America.
planetc1.com-news@1:52 pm PST The Orlando Magic face-off with the Los Angeles Lakers tonight at the Staples Center in downtown LA, for game one of a best-of-seven series that will crown a champion in the 2009 NBA Finals. Locally in LA County, big black Cadillac Escalades with 40 inch rims, and other LA SUVs and vehicles, are cruising the streets, adorning traditional Lakers purple and gold flags above their windows. I wouldn't be surprised to hear the same is going on in Orlando (with blue and gray Orlando Magic flags seen on the freeways and streets). Los Angeles is undoubtedly NBA basketball dynasty territory, and Lakers fans are coming out of the woodwork for the 2009 NBA finals.

Topics like usability and accuracy of results, are things people are reporting on related to Bing, and I decided to check out some of the features for myself. Like anybody that spends a good part of their day studying search engines and the traffic they bring, I suppose I'm kind of biased and have particular expectations when performing search queries for keywords that are well known to me. Here in Los Angeles we're pretty excited about the 2009 NBA finals getting started on Thursday, and although I'm not making any predictions, it's been seven years since I've closed my chiropractic office for a Lakers Parade. I'd be happy to do that again later this month if the situation came up. Besides NBA basketball and continual news regarding the swine flu (vaccinating the entire planet is probably on someone's agenda), there's plenty of other stuff you can expect to read about this month. DD Palmer to be Honored on Iowa Walk of Fame June 6 planetc1.com-news@10:04 am PST Daniel David (D.D.) Palmer, discoverer of chiropractic and founder of Palmer College of Chiropractic, will have his name added to the Iowa Walk of Fame in downtown Shenandoah, Iowa. The 12 new plaques to be dedicated in Shenandoah on June 6, 2009, include those for an astronaut, musicians, singers, writers, entrepreneurs, a cartoonist, an athlete, an actress, and of course, a healing art and college founder. D.D. Palmer's great-granddaughter, Vickie Palmer, will represent the Palmer family and college at the ceremonies. Ms. Palmer served as chairman of the Palmer College of Chiropractic Board of Trustees from 1987 to 2008, and still serves on the Board as an officer.
planetc1.com-news@9:21 pm PST Rolling out classified advertising for 1 June, with what's been posted to chiropractic classifieds in recent days. Summer is on its way, graduation ceremonies and Father's Day take place this month, and there's lots of activities for people to focus on, other than buying or selling practices, and seeking chiropractic employment. It is early to say if there will be a drop in advertisements placed for the summertime season, although we do tend to see a bit less activity in July and August each year. Searches for chiropractic jobs are at an all-time 10 year high, so this may be the first year there is no decline in summer advertising. Only time will tell. Enjoy your June! |
