USPS Holiday Hours – UPS & FedEx Holiday Schedule

Time has nearly run out on getting packages delivered via the 3 major shipping services in the United States. The United States Postal Service (USPS), United Parcel Service (UPS), and Federal Express (FedEx) all have holiday hours with altered delivery schedules during the next few days. All three services are running today, with packages being delivered late into the evening hours on Christmas Eve, but Christmas Day is a postal holiday, a UPS holiday, and a holiday observed by FedEx. Here are some details on holiday hours for the three different delivery services.

Update: 2009 Postal Holidays and UPS / FedEx Holiday Schedules

Time has nearly run out on getting packages delivered via the 3 major shipping services in the United States. The United States Postal Service (USPS), United Parcel Service (UPS), and Federal Express (FedEx) all have holiday hours with altered delivery schedules during the next few days. All three services are running today, with packages being delivered late into the evening hours on Christmas Eve, but Christmas Day is a postal holiday, a UPS holiday, and a holiday observed by FedEx. Here are some details on holiday hours for the three different delivery services.

USPS Post Offices Christmas Eve – According to the USPS, all post offices nationwide will be open on Christmas Eve, Wednesday, December 24th, but most will have shortened retail lobby hours and will be closing at noon. Regular mail delivery for the 24th is expected to be unaffected by the change in retail post office hours.

Your local post office should have the revised hours holiday schedule posted at their location. Commercial customers are asked to check with their bulk mail acceptance units for hours of operation on December 24. Customers can call 1-800-ASK-USPS for information about specific post office locations. Post Offices will be closed Thursday, December 25th, and only Express Mail is expected to be delivered on Christmas Day. All post offices will be open and regular mail delivery times will resume on December 26th (Friday). Visit the United States Postal Service website for more information regarding holiday delivery schedules (don’t forget about New Year’s Day).

FedEx Delivery Christmas Eve – FedEx office holiday schedules vary by location. The FedEx website has a FedEx location finder (including Kinko’s locations, self-service locations, and FedEx authorized shipping centers) which is probably the best way to locate a pickup and drop off facility near you. FedEx is closed on Christmas Day and will reopen on Friday, December 26th, with regular delivery schedules.

UPS Holiday Hours Christmas Eve – UPS has normal pickup and delivery services for air, international and ground packages on December 23. According to UPS, Next Day Air packages picked up today will arrive on Christmas Eve (December 24th) and 2nd Day Air packages (picked up today) will arrive on the day after Christmas, Friday, December 26th.

UPS has a normal delivery schedule for Christmas Eve but there is no UPS Ground pickup service on this day. UPS has pickup service provided for air and international shipments via UPS On-Call Pickup service, at all UPS Drop Boxes or if prearranged by Tuesday, December 23rd.

There is no UPS pickup or delivery on Christmas day other than the UPS Express Critical service which is available for delivery of urgent packages. Call 1-800-714-8779 or visit the upsexpresscritical.com for details.

On Friday, December 26th, UPS has delivery of air, international and ground packages. There are no UPS Ground pickups planned for the day after Christmas. Air and international shipments have pickup services only for those prearranged by December 24th. Talk to your UPS account executive, you UPS driver, or call 1-800-PICK-UPS for pickup and delivery details.

UPS stores will be open with holiday hours on Christmas Eve and closed on December 25th. Check locally for UPS store hours near you, visit the www.ups.com site, or call 1-800-PICK-UPS for more details.

Unless you’ve ever worked for USPS, FedEx or United Parcel Service (or even DHL) it’s hard to imagine the workload these individuals face during the holiday season. I worked for UPS nearly 5 years while getting my chiropractic education and the Christmas holiday season was the most demanding time of the year. Everybody is in high gear and doing their best to see that every possible package that has been shipped is delivered on schedule. Don’t be surprised to receive postal deliveries, deliveries from FedEx, and deliveries from UPS drivers (and holiday helpers) late into the evening on Christmas Eve.

Here is to everyone having a safe and healthy holiday!
