Consumer Electronics Show Guide – CES 2009

The 2009 Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2009) is upon us, with organizers, attendees, and exhibitors all heading to Las Vegas for the preeminent consumer electronics trade show of the year. It's no secret that I am a nut about gadgets and electronics as I've owned a plethora of digital cameras, MP3 players, laptop computers, and other electronic gadgetry, that enables me to live this digitally connected existence I so adore. I'm certainly not the only one excited about consumer electronics, an estimated 130,000 individuals will be in Las Vegas this week for this year's 2009 CES show. If you're one of those individuals, check out my 2009 CES guide, and have a spectacular time.

The 2009 Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2009) is upon us, with organizers, attendees, and exhibitors all heading to Las Vegas for the preeminent consumer electronics trade show of the year. It’s no secret that I am a nut about gadgets and electronics as I’ve owned a plethora of digital cameras, MP3 players, laptop computers, and other electronic gadgetry, that enables me to live this digitally connected existence I so adore. I’m certainly not the only one excited about consumer electronics, an estimated 130,000 individuals will be in Las Vegas this week for this year’s 2009 CES show. When it comes to consumer electronics, CES has everything including car audio, home audio, digital imaging, emerging technologies, gaming, high-performance audio and home theater, home networking, in vehicle technology, and much more. CES Las Vegas is ginormous, with the four-day event taking up multiple official show locations, including the Las Vegas Hilton, Convention Center, Sands Expo Center, the Venetian, and the Palazzo hotels. It’s one of the biggest trade shows in Las Vegas, if not the biggest of them all.

Will there be a CES announcement of an early release of Microsoft Windows 7 Public Beta? I don’t know (I sure hope so) but I do know there is a brain dazzling number of conference sessions and events taking place during the show, and I suspect several big computing related announcements will be made.

As a chiropractor who loves technology, two things I’m really excited about are improvements in quality and increase in size related to touchscreen technology, and 2009 Netbook models (I have 2 Eee PCs from Asus and love them both). Large touch screens for use in health-care settings are now a reality, and as more chiropractic offices (and other health-care facilities) convert to digital imaging, the ability to educate patients and consumers using advanced electronics, is in more affordable reach.

If you’re heading out to Las Vegas for this year’s 2009 International CES event, it’s a good idea to get your plans in order so that you are not stuck sometime Thursday looking for a registration counter or particular electronics booth. First off, here is the official website for 2009 CES. If you’re following me on twitter, you may also want to be checking out the official ces09 twitter bot. For those of you using twitter, the tag #ces09 will get your posts re-tweeted. I would also recommend you follow ces OR #ces09 real-time results.

If you haven’t already done so, visit the International CES Flickr page, and grab a large version copy of the official show locations map shown above.

Official show locations CES 2009 include the Las Vegas Hilton, Las Vegas convention Center (LVCC), Sands Expo and Convention Center / the Venetian, and the Palazzo ballroom (keynotes take place here). I’ve walked to the North and South LVCC halls many times so plan on wearing comfortable shoes, and be prepared for some exercise. There is a Starbucks located on the ground level of the South hall if you’re looking to grab a latte or mocha beverage. The south side is adjacent to the Marriott Renaissance Las Vegas, an excellent non-gambling business hotel (restaurant serves some good steaks).

Be sure to download a copy of the map shown above which will help you navigate the convention center for CES. If you want to see photos updated during the week, I also suggest watching the International CES Flickr page and/or checking everybody’s uploaded photos marked ces2009.
