Southern California University of Health Sciences New President

Southern California University of Health Sciences Board of Regents Appoints John Scaringe as President. Southern California University of Health Sciences' Board of Regents announced the appointment of John Scaringe, DC as the university's President, effective May 8, 2010. Dr. Scaringe had previously been serving in the role of Interim President of SCU since August 2009.

Southern California University of Health Sciences Board of Regents Appoints John Scaringe as President

Whittier CA — Southern California University of Health Sciences’ Board of Regents announced the appointment of John Scaringe, DC as the university’s President, effective May 8, 2010. Dr. Scaringe had previously been serving in the role of Interim President of SCU since August 2009.

Southern California University of Health Sciences LogoDr. Scaringe had recently held the position of Vice President for Academic Affairs at SCU from 2006-09. He began his career at Los Angeles College of Chiropractic (LACC) as a faculty member in 1991. He served as Chair of the Chiropractic Procedures Department and the Department of Diagnosis for LACC before directing the University Health Center on the Whittier campus. In 2001, he became Dean of Clinical Education and Chief of Staff, and in 2005 was named Dean of LACC.

Dr. Scaringe is a published author and has served as the Associate Editor for the Journal of Sports Chiropractic and Rehabilitation, and is on the editorial advisory board of Manual Therapy. He is a frequent lecturer on topics relating to sports medicine and manual therapy, and has cared for elite amateur and professional athletes worldwide. In addition to private practice and over 20 years of teaching experience, Dr. Scaringe currently serves on the Council on Chiropractic Education.

Dr. Scaringe holds a Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) from New York Chiropractic College, a doctorate in Educational Leadership (EdD) from California State University, Long Beach, and a masters in Kinesiology from California State University, Fullerton. He is a Diplomate and former President of the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians.

Dr. William Valusek, Chairman of Southern California University of Health Sciences‘ Board of Regents, states the motivation for the decision, “We are pleased to have Dr. Scaringe leading the university during this critical period. His experience in educational administration and demonstrated devotion to SCU will prove to be vital in carrying out the university’s strategic plan.”

Southern California University of Health Sciences incorporates the College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic, the School of Professional Studies, and the University Health Center.

Since 1911 Southern California University of Health Sciences has been a leader in preparing practitioners and providing care in complementary and alternative medicine, and is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, and Council on Chiropractic Education.
