Airport Hotels Rock For Seminars
planetc1.com-news email to the editor
By Michael Dorausch, DC

Conferences and seminars are one of the best ways to network, learn from experts, and peddle wares at vendor booths. With so much already going on and all the travel involved in getting to out of state locations (or even in-state events), it's surprising to me not more seminars don't take place at airport hotels.

Recently returning home from a conference in Austin, Texas, I passed several attractive corporate hotels surrounding the Austin Airport. I don't know the Austin area well but I know chiropractors attend conferences regularly at hotels nearby the Los Angeles International Airport (also known as LAX). All the major brands have hotels near LAX. There's a Radisson, Marriott, Sheraton, Hilton, and others. Regardless if it's a chiropractic event, search event, or any other industry conference, I seem to find it easier for all attending, when hotels near airports are utilized. The only exceptions are when events are for locals only, in that case I'd stay away from the airport region.

One may think airport hotels are too noisy and too crowded but that has not been the case in times that I've attended conferences nearby airports. LAX is the best example I have since it's local to me. There may not be the best choices of nightlife or restaurants in the LAX airport area, but the convenience of being in proximity of the airport (so you're not spending half the day in traffic) is more valuable to me.

I've mentioned the Phoenix airport in the past as a great airport for conference travelers. What's good about the PHX area is even the really nice resort hotels (like the Biltmore, Phoenician, and Tempe Mission Palms are not far from the airport. Closer is better though, and there's plenty of hotels to choose from that are within a 5 mile radius of PHX.

Taxi cabs and traffic are 2 things I'm not crazy about when travelling for conferences. San Francisco and Oakland aren't so bad if your hotel is near the BART, but not better than being in close proximity to the airport (SFO & OAK).

The one exception has got to be Las Vegas, although I'm sure someone is putting on seminars nearby McCarran International Airport. The Vegas strip isn't too far from LAS so that's one I can handle (although a cab ride in Friday night Las Vegas traffic is the ultimate travel suck).

I know in many cases it's more expensive for conference organizers, but I'd like to see more events hosted near airports, so I can get in and get out in an efficient manner. I love conferences, and I love seminars, and I love when the entire process is easy and doesn't leave me drained when returning back home.

Chiropractors, check out state seminars and conferences on the Chiropractic Continuing Education pages. The rest of you can find a local chiropractor here. It's always better to be adjusted before and after conference travel trips (imo).
