Ante Up for Autism October 2009

By Michael Dorausch, DC There is a poker tournament coming to Southern California this October, as part of a special event to benefit Talk about Curing Autism (TACA), taking place at the St. Regis Hotel in Monarch Beach. This is the third annual event and it is scheduled for Friday, October 23, 2009. I received a postcard today and wanted to share the news with others. I attended the 2008 Ante up for Autism which featured special guest celebrity hosts Jenny McCarthy and seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong. Jenny was an incredible host and pretty much everyone knows how much of an outspoken advocate for autism awareness she has become. Both celebrities played in the poker tournament, as did skateboarding sensation Tony Hawk and Ryan Sheckler, along with many others. An opportunity to watch these celebs play poker amongst some professional card players, local business people, and others helping to raise funds for autism awareness, was well worth the price of admission. Besides poker and other casino games, there was some fabulous food being served, live musical entertainment, and beautiful surroundings at the plush and beautiful St. Regis resort and hotel. When attending the 2008 TACA poker tournament, I was especially pleased to see individuals and groups from different health care specialties working together and raising funds for autism and the TACA organization. Among those sponsors was the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (a holistic health care organization worth supporting) as well as several others. A month prior to the gala event in Orange County, Jenny McCarthy (along with boyfriend Jim Carrey) appeared on the cover of the fall Pathways Magazine (an ICPA publication). Every chiropractor should have a subscription to Pathways. It's too early to say who this year's celebrity hosts for the 2009 Ante Up for Autism event are going to be, but the 3rd annual event promises to be quite an extravaganza. Tournament poker is being provided by Commerce Casino and all proceeds are raised for the benefit of Talk about Curing Autism.
