Bayer Challenges Ban on Poultry Antibiotic

According to an MSNBC news report, Bayer Corp. has challenged the Food and Drug Administration for attempting to ban an antibiotic used in chickens which reportedly, results in people becoming sick as a result of antibiotic resistant bacteria.The FDA attempt was made in October and the antibiotic in question is called Baytril, according to the MSNBC report. Baytril is one drug in a group of antibiotics known as fluoroquinolones. The FDA believes that fluoroquinolones are one of the many drugs responsible for the rise in antibiotic-resistant bacteria, according to reports. According to the FDA, mutating bacteria that are increasingly becoming resistant to antibiotic treatment are a growing health threat to humans.
