California Chiropractic College Seeks New President
planetc1.com-news email to the editor
by Michael Dorausch, DC

Southern California University of Health Sciences in Whittier, California is seeking a new college president after an announcement by Dr. Reed B. Phillips that he will be stepping down as the institution's president. The California chiropractic college had been known as Los Angeles Chiropractic College (LACC) until only a few years ago when the school decided to add acupuncture to its curriculum and change the name of the institution to SCUHS.

Dr. Phillips has served as the president of the chiropractic college for the past 16 years. He will continue to serve as president of the school until a replacement is agreed upon. Dr. Phillips is a member of the Board of Directors for the Association of Chiropractic Colleges and was a signing member of the July 1996 ACC Chiropractic Paradigm, a position paper on the practice of chiropractic.

According to the ACC paper, Chiropractic is a health care discipline which emphasizes the inherent recuperative power of the body to heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery. The practice of chiropractic focuses on the relationship between structure (primarily the spine) and function (as coordinated by the nervous system) and how that relationship affects the preservation and restoration of health. In addition, Doctors of Chiropractic recognize the value and responsibility of working in cooperation with other health care practitioners when in the best interest of the patient.

The new university president will report to the Board of Regents and will act as chief executive officer of the campus. The president will provide direction, leadership and purpose to the campus community and will be instrumental in operations geared towards the university's mission, vision, values and goals.

Planet Chiropractic wishes Dr. Reed Phillips all the best in his future endeavors and thanks him for his many years of service as a leader in chiropractic. We hope the Chiropractic University will select someone with great leadership abilities that will work in continuing to advance the profession of chiropractic as a natural and drug-free approach to health and wellness.
