Checking Up On The Lakers

By Michael Dorausch, D.C.Last month I made brief mention of the Los Angeles Lakers and their championship parade through downtown Los Angeles. I made a comment that we would eventually find out who's providing chiropractic care for the Lakers and I had e-mailed a friend later that day saying that I would be speaking to Rick Fox of the Lakers and would get that information. Now I had never spoken to Rick Fox nor had I ever met him before yet of all the Los Angeles Lakers, he was the one I had focused on. By Tuesday, I had consciously forgotten about the situation as it had now been exactly two weeks since the parade and I was thinking of other things. After coming home from the office on Tuesday I got on my bike to go to the corner market and get some bread. While riding down the middle of the street I recited the Prayer of Jabez once out loud... "Oh that you would bless me indeed;
and enlarge my territory;
that your hand would be with me;
and keep me from evil;
so that I may not cause pain.(Every time I recite this prayer I think of my mission in chiropractic. I think of what my mentors have taught me... what greater gift can we give than to serve God by serving mankind chiropractic?) I rode just past the market, turned the corner and there was Rick Fox along with his and wife Vanessa's children. It was as if he was waiting for me. Without hesitation I said, "you guys are awesome." He smiled, said thanks and then I asked, "who's your chiropractor?" "Danny takes care of me" he responded, "why is that what you do?" "Yes" I said, "and I wanted to be sure that you and the rest of the team were being taken care of even during the off-season." "Thanks, I appreciate that" he said, as his kids began skating down the walk. It was time to go. Seconds later I caught that feeling, I was in that space that we have all been in (some more often then others) and I thought, Oh that you WOULD bless me indeed! And then I thought, what about the kids and Rick's wife Vanessa? We'll have to discuss that on our next meeting.
