Chiropractic Missions in Your Backyard
planetc1.com-news email to the editor
By Michael Dorausch, D.C.

Planet chiropractic has published many articles related to chiropractic missions during the past two years. Often times chiropractors are found gathering up their gear and traveling many miles to take care of many folks in faraway places. The intent is always the same; serve for the sake of serving, give for the sake of giving, and love for the sake of loving.

Thanks to the work of chiropractors like Anita Morgenstern, DCs in the New York/New Jersey area do not have to travel far to take care of needy folks. Several years ago, Anita founded a group called Chiropractic For Humanity which was created in order to minister chiropractic care to the homeless and needy at the St. Francis Xavier Church soup kitchen in NYC.

Back in June of 2000, Dr. Anita and others from the group were featured in the New York Daily News for the care they have been providing. For the past 3 1/2 years, two or more volunteer chiropractors have shown up at the Church every Sunday afternoon. The volunteer chiropractors adjust as many as 200 men, women and children in just a few hours. "It's the most gratifying thing," says Dr. Anita.

Anita hopes that eventually there will be chiropractors in every shelter in New York providing chiropractic care to the needy and homeless. That's where you come in. To see more people, they need more volunteers. Anita needs chiropractors that can help in the Manhattan Soup Kitchen on Sundays from l2:45-3:15 PM. She also needs help on Tuesday mornings on the lower East Side at an HIV residence where the group takes care of residents as well as people coming in from the outside for services.

If you cannot be in Manhattan or the lower East Side, Anita is looking to start a program in the Bronx, Westchester, Queens, Brooklyn, and Long Island. She is looking for volunteers that she can count on to be there consistently. Anita tells me that it can be once a week or as little as once every other month, but consistency is the key.

If you would like to participate, please contact Anita Morgenstern at 9l4-478-037l or e-mail her at chiromom13@aol.com

In the Daily News article, a priest at St. Francis Xavier Church said, "people on the streets don't often get touched." You can change that.
