This weekend was a time for marathons, half marathons, 10ks, and other foot races, all across the United States. From the Memphis marathon to the Las Vegas marathon, runners across America hit the asphalt for 26.2 miles, raising money for charities, and achieving personal health and fitness goals nationwide.

Ballys Las Vegas, Nevada 2008The 2008 Las Vegas Marathon takes place today, with a full marathon course that starts at the Mandalay Bay, and heads north along the Las Vegas strip, heading west and then south and east, making a virtually square course map through Las Vegas.

2008 Las Vegas marathon results should be available on the official website by the end of the day today. Marathon and half marathon photos from Las Vegas should start appearing on Flickr by late Sunday, and continue throughout the week. Congratulations to all of those running, volunteering, and helping to organize this year’s 2008 Las Vegas marathon. Many thanks to chiropractor Matt Mortensen for his work in preparing runners for today’s event.

Not only were people running the streets of Las Vegas today, in California they also ran from the city of Folsom to the city of Sacramento, in the 26th annual 2008 California International Marathon (CIM). Unlike the flat streets of Las Vegas, the California International Marathon is a fast, mostly downhill course, that follows a gold miners route. The race begins at Folsom Dam and moves through suburbs of Sacramento, with a finish that ends in front of California’s state capital. Local Sacramento chiropractor, Dr. Jeri Anderson, has been preparing runners for months, as runners strive for their personal bests, and qualifiers for the 2009 Boston Marathon.

2008 California international marathon results (that includes Sacramento marathon results) will be posted to the results page on the official marathon web site. Sacramento marathon photos for 2008 should also be available on that page as well. Congratulations to those organizing, running, and volunteering for today’s CIM event.

I almost forgot about today’s marathon of the Palm beaches, also known as the 2008 Palm Beach Marathon, which has a course that maps through West Palm Beach. Royal Palm Beach chiropractor, Dr. Edwin Cordero, reminded me that they’d be running through the streets of West Palm this morning, in a full marathon, half marathon, and 5K race event. Unlike the 2008 Las Vegas Marathon, the course for West Palm Beach trails along many miles of waterfront vistas, on eastern Florida’s inner coastal highways. If you have taken part in the race, give yourself a few days and then check search results for 2008 Palm Beach marathon photos on Flickr. Check the official website for 2008 Palm Beach marathon race results.

While the Las Vegas, Sacramento, and Palm Beach marathons took place on Sunday, the 2008 Memphis Marathon was held on Saturday, December 6th. The Memphis event featured a full marathon, half marathon, and 5K event, all of which reportedly sold out. Runners raised money for St. Jude children’s Research Hospital and got some serious running fitness in the process. Saturday’s race began and finished in downtown Memphis, with participants passing many popular city landmarks and attractions, including the Mississippi River, Beale Street, and the famous Sun Studio, where Elvis Presley first recorded. Saturday’s race results have already been posted, and are available for viewing here.

Other marathons that took place in the U. S. this past weekend included the Baton Rouge Beach Marathon (held on Saturday), the Death Valley Borax Marathon, Half Marathon & 10K (in Death Valley California), the Tecumseh Trail Marathon (in Bloomington Indiana), and the Tucson Marathon. Runner still have several days to prepare for next week’s Birch Bay Marathon in Washington, the Rocket City Marathon in Huntsville Alabama, the Roxbury Marathon in Connecticut, the Thunder Road Marathon in Charlotte North Carolina, the Dallas Marathon, and the 2008 Honolulu Marathon.

Congratulations to everyone that’s completed or is training for one of these races. All the best of health to you!
