From the La Crosse Tribune - Obituaries for Sunday, July 6, 2003ONALASKA, Wis. — Dr. Fred Barge, 70, died at his home Wednesday, July 2, 2003. He was born in La Crosse to Dr. Henry and Pauline (Ruprecht) Barge. He was married in 1957 to Audrey (Thomp-son) Barge, and together they had three daughters, Amy, Sally and Patty. Dr. Fred Barge is survived by his wife, Audrey; daughters, Sally (Barge) Rusak and Dr. Patty (Barge) Berkley; two sons-in-law, Dr. Michael Rusak and Dr. Michael Berkley; 10 grandchildren, Steven, Audra, Jacob, Maxwell, Alana and Lucas Rusak, Amanda, Angela, Victor, and Alysa Berkley; and his sister, Caroline Barge. He was preceded in passing by his parents, Dr. Henry and Pauline Barge; and his daughter, Amy. Dr. Fred Barge was a second-generation chiropractor, and together with his father, Dr. Henry, created the Barge Chiropractic Clinic in downtown La Crosse. The Barge Chiropractic Clinic and name has served the area for more than 75 years. He was a skilled and compassionate clinician who became internationally known for his expertise in scoliosis. He was the chiropractic profession's leading contemporary author. He has authored more than eight books that are used as curricular texts at the chiropractic colleges. He was a leading speaker and professor. He has held virtually every leadership position in the chiropractic profession and received every honor. He has touched the lives of countless patients, friends, chiropractic students and doctors across the world. Yet despite his larger-than-life accomplishments professionally, Dr. Fred will best be remembered as a man of great integrity, vision and compassion; a loving and thoughtful husband, father and grandfather. Words cannot express the gaping void his passing will leave on the chiropractic profession and in the hearts of his family and friends. A private family service will be held.
