Get Up and Smell the Coffee

I hate to say NO. Especially when I'm asked to do something that I can do. I hate to say NO especially to my kids. I want to be able to do it all, all of the time. When I don't get a clear picture and plan for what is important to me then I will fall on my butt. That simple, I have tested it time and time again. I can't be all things to all people. I've got to be willing to delegate. I've got to be willing to say not now. I've got to be willing to say NO.

I hate to say NO. Especially when I’m asked to do something that I can do. I hate to say NO especially to my kids. I want to be able to do it all, all of the time. When I don’t get a clear picture and plan for what is important to me then I will fall on my butt. That simple, I have tested it time and time again. I can’t be all things to all people. I’ve got to be willing to delegate. I’ve got to be willing to say not now. I’ve got to be willing to say NO.

When I don’t then I end up not taking care of myself and putting myself last and again I land up on my butt. I know what happened when I took my husband for granted and didn’t schedule date nights and didn’t spend time sharing my feelings with him. When I did that my marriage ended up on it’s butt. Then I dusted myself off and realized how important my marriage is and decided to not put it at the bottom of the priority list.

I finally have got to get up and smell the coffee and realize that I can’t help any one else if there is nothing of me left because I, yes I, have allowed myself to fall on my butt again. The price is high. It’s like the patient who only gets adjusted when they are hurting. Why do I have to experience pain before I realize that I can’t keep on going the way that I am and not get some sort of dis-ease.

Yes, it might be an inconvenience and expense for a person to get adjusted each week, yet we all know the payoff is greater. That is how I have got to start thinking in regard to taking care of myself. I wouldn’t go a week without getting adjusted. I rarely go a week without exercising or eating properly or sleeping properly. I have to schedule down time so that I can regroup and just be. I think what makes it so difficult for me is because most of the things that I do in my life that keep me so busy I truly enjoy so so much.

I have a blessed life and when I’m burning the candle at both ends it stops feeling blessed. What a shame.

I confess my true weakness to you in hope that I will stop doing it and that maybe you can relate a bit and take something away from me sharing my issue. With the Holidays coming up guard yourself from burn out. Choose what you are willing to do and what you are not willing to do carefully. If there is nothing left of you then there won’t be anything left for you to give. If you allow the craziness of the season to penetrate you then what Joy can you truly feel. Remember the word NO because it could save us all from ending up on our butts.
