Google Search Results Go Universal

by Michael Dorausch, DCIt seems the whole Search Engine Optimization world today was talking about the changes that just took place at Google. The search behemoth said on Wednesday that it was changing its approach to Internet searches by combining results from sources such as Google News, video, maps, and other Google properties, into organic search results.  The new service began Wednesday and it is expected to gradually become more apparent to online users of Google search pages in the upcoming weeks. This new format will allow users to view video and or photographs directly within search results that traditionally would've only contained textual information.
Currently for some, a break in the typical search results, may offer a bit of confusion, as searchers may not be expecting to see blocks of news content appearing directly within the traditional search results. But just as users have acclimated to paid contextual advertising along the top of the page and along the right sidebar, it is expected that the news and even video content displayed will soon become second nature. To see an example of how these new features work when incorporating news into the traditional results, I did a search for a term that it was popular today... SHREK. Both of these search terms should be excessively popular well into next year and I'd expect they will result in a rich combination of traditional text, images, news, videos, and maybe even map content. You can view the results here... use this link for Republicans+Google+Search and this one for Democrats+Google+Search Interestingly, in my test of the two terms Google delivered news for "Democrats" in position number four on the search engine results page, two positions below the democrats.org homepage. In contrast, the search for "Republicans" resulted in current news in the first position with republicans.org not showing up until position number five of search engine results. It's too early to say how this will affect news delivered by planetc1.com since we have long been a source for Google News content. Like Dr. Stevenson said in his 1927 text book, "there is no process that does not require time." We'll just wait and see.
