Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) 5-time UFC Champion Randy Couture is hosting a Charity 5K walk/run to benefit the Xtreme Couture G.I. Foundation. The event will be held at the Centennial Hills YMCA in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Saturday, May 17, 2008. Funds raised from the event, titled Operation Freedom Run, will go towards a foundation formed to raise money and awareness for US troops who have been wounded fighting the war on terrorism.

Randy "The Natural" Couture is widely known as one of the most popular MMA fighters in history. Couture served in the U.S. Army during the 1980s and he was a three-time Olympic wrestling team alternate in 1988, 1992 and 1996.

Couture created the Xtreme Couture GI Foundation in 2007 after visiting with amputees at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio and being touched by their commitment to their country. The Foundation's goal is to help fit amputees with top of the line prosthetic devices to allow them to continue living an active and athletic lifestyle.

Those wanting to register for the event have two options to do so online. You can use the online operation sign up form or download the Freedom Run form as a PDF document. Entrants will receive a race packet which will include an Operation: Freedom Run Dri-Fit style shirt (not guaranteed for entries received after May 12th), race bib, ChampionChip by Tri-A-Run which will record race time, information from sponsors, and an autographed 8x10 photo of Randy Couture (optional). MMA has rapidly been growing in popularity, and there are a number of chiropractors working with athletes in the field. One particular doctor of chiropractic working closely with MMA athletes is Livermore chiropractor, Dr. George Khoury.
