More Over-prescribing of Ritalin Reported
planetc1.com-news email to the editor

We have reported previously about the number of children being prescribed ritalin that have not met any type of diagnostic criteria. We have also reported previously on the many articles siting overuse and abuse of stimulants such as ritalin.

From Fox News comes an article titled, "Controversy Over Stimulant Use Among Children"

The article discusses a recent study from the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry which sites that "that many children receiving stimulants may not meet current diagnostic criteria for ADHD."

According to the article, the long-term study found that "the majority of those who received stimulants never met criteria for ADHD." How many you might ask? The reports states that "57% never had parent-reported impairing ADHD symptoms of any sort."

After comparing findings with other studies, the report found a "very unsatisfactory state of affairs in the relationship between ADHD and its treatment with stimulants in the community" according to the article.

This is one more article and report that shows a substantial over-diagnosing of ADHD and over-prescribing of stimulants such as ritalin. Are drugs making our kids healthier?
