Barack Hussein Obama was elected the 44th president of the United States on Tuesday, with Americans embracing his call for change in the direction and tone of the country. Healthcare has been a huge issue in this year’s election, and Obama many times made the US health-care system a centerpiece of his presidential campaign. He has spoken of expanding government health-care programs and subsidizing coverage for persons that cannot afford health care in the United States. After energy independence, Barack Obama has referred to his health-care overhaul plans as “priority number 2”, but how do those plans affect the industry of chiropractic?

Obama - Hope - ChiropracticIn late October, planetchiropractic.com published two letters from America’s recently elected 44th president of the United States, that address the chiropractic profession and its relationship to the US government run Medicare system. Chiropractors are urged to read the article, Barack Obama on Chiropractic and Medicare, in order to familiarize themselves with what ideas had been put forth.

As Obama has said, doctors of chiropractic play an important role in America’s health-care system. He believes steps should be taken to the knowledge the care provided by doctors of chiropractic, and he had written that “We need to knock down unreasonable barriers of access and discriminatory insurance coverage so Americans in need of quality chiropractic care can access it without difficulty.

In his letter, Barack Hussein Obama expressed a desire to expand the range of chiropractic services covered by Medicare, and further integrate services by chiropractors into America’s Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense. Under Obama’s health-care plan, “many, if not all” chiropractic services are expected to be included in a benefit package offered to the public.

A 2nd news article, posted on October 23rd, featured another letter from Obama on a United States Universal Health Care plan that would include chiropractic. With doctors of chiropractic now making up over 60,000 licensed professionals in all 50 states of the US; low cost, drug-free, noninvasive natural health care is expected to be an important an integrated part of America’s universal health care package.

America has high hopes for its recently elected president, and chiropractors, as well as the people they serve, look forward to building a healthier nation for all.

God Bless America!
