Optimists vs. Pessimists: Optimists Prevail!
planetc1.com-news email to the editor
A new report published in the February issue of the journal Mayo Clinic Proceedings suggests that a positive mental outlook leads to a longer life.

The report suggests that "individuals who profess pessimistic explanations for life events have poorer physical health," according to researchers led by Dr. Toshihiko Maruta of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

The report also notes that "the link between mind and body has been contemplated by many, including physicians and philosophers since the time of Plato.'' However, a small number of long-term studies have closely examined this connection.

Test scores from the study reflect that high degrees of pessimism "were significantly associated with a higher-than-expected mortality (rate)'' compared with the death rates of either optimists or 'middle-of-the-road' types. In fact, every 10-point increase in pessimism scores "was associated with a 19% increase in the risk of death,'' according to study.

On the other hand, those that had test scores indicating optimism had a survival rate "significantly better than expected." The doctors in the study noted that earlier studies associate a "dark" attitude on life with reductions in immune system function.

So, the study suggests that there is a mind-body connection that has an effect on the immune system function.

Chiropractors have been expressing this to patients for years and it has been demonstrated time and again in offices across the globe. Attitude does determine altitude.

Again, in the words of Dr. Sid Williams: (Say it out loud!)
I feel healthy!
I feel happy!
I feel terrific!

Doesn't that feel good?
