“The only way you can perform is to prepare and condition your self.” – Walter Payton

The great Chicago Bears running back is someone our family has always admired. He was well known for his determination and discipline in training – his goal was to be the best he could be. He was known for working as hard in or out of the season. During his tenure with the Bears they were a mediocre team but that did not stop him in his goal to always improve. He would watch the tapes to see what he could do better next time. He developed a straight-legged style after seeing that most leg injuries came from being hit with the leg bent too much. Other running backs knee angles when running averaged 90 degrees. He tried never to let his knees bend more than 30 degrees. He only missed one game his entire pro career.

He was known for his positive attitude, looking for every option and for pulling the team together. Even as he was dying, he continued to look forward to what he could do and how he could help his family. Walter Payton holds and co-holds NFL records. He is a pure example of practice makes perfect.

Success Tips

1) Evaluate yourself by audio/and or video taping your adjustments, exams, reports, team trainings, workshops, and screenings. Share it with your coach. Require that your CA’s do the same. Develop a plan to improve where necessary.
2) Periodically assess the attitude of the team. Is the focus to improve the business through increased profitability, efficiency and level of contribution or are people just going to work? Refocus and pull everyone together when required.
3) Stay consistent with the habits and rituals that keep you strong mentally, physically and emotionally.
4) Remember you do not have to reinvent the wheel, there are proven successful strategies for practice.
5) Innovate where necessary, do not violate the basics.
