San Francisco 2009 Bay to Breakers Results and Photos

The world wackiest road race took place today in San Francisco, with Kenya's 22-year-old Sammy Kitwara, crushing an existing record for the San Francisco Bay to Breakers 12K race. Kitwara ran the 12 kilometer distance in a time of 33:31 with an average running pace of 4:30, beating all previous records in the 98-year-old San Francisco foot race. ING did a terrific job with this year's 2009 Bay to Breakers event, and lots of photos have already appeared online, thanks to Twitter and photo sharing sites like Flickr.

Kitwara ran the 12 kilometer distance in a time of 33:31 with an average running pace of 4:30, beating all previous records in the 98-year-old San Francisco foot race. The team at ING shows us how running can be fun, even if we can’t make it to the event. The San Francisco Bay to Breakers has a worldwide reputation for participants wearing colorful and extravagant costumes, some running, and others just enjoying good times. Amy Johnson maintained the ING Bay to Breakers twitter account (INGB2Breakers), keeping hundreds of online followers posted with updates from today’s run. Bay to Breakers 2009 Race Results — Kenya’s Sammy Kitwara took first place with his time of 33:31, a new Bay to Breakers record. 26-year-old Teyba Erkesso of Ethiopia took first place in the female division, with a time of 38:29, and an average running pace of 5:10. All participants for the 2009 race can find race results by name or bib number, by searching the B2B2009 results page. Overall 2009 Bay to Breakers 12K results will also be posting to ingbaytobreakers.com/results later this week.

The Flickr photo sharing site is already featuring plenty of crazy costume photographs (which includes some nude photos potentially not safe for work – NSFW) from the 2009 Bay to Breakers run. On Flickr, use search terms or tags like #b2b09, Bay to Breakers, Bay to Breakers 2009, etc.

Congratulations also to San Francisco Doctor of Chiropractic Scott Swanson and other local chiropractors that offer their time and services to assist those training for the event. We will have more coverage of chiropractor training with athletes for the 2009 San Francisco marathon, scheduled for July 26.

Also, congratulations to finishers of the 2009 Green Bay Marathon, which also took place today, and featured a course that began and ended at the world famous Lambeau Field in Green Bay Wisconsin.
