Vaccine Researcher is Forced Out of Job
planetc1.com-news email to the editor

UK news sources have reported today that Dr. Andrew Wakefield, the researcher who first raised concerns about the safety of MMR vaccination, has been forced to resign his position at the Royal Free Hospital Medical School in London. Dr. Wakefield's research there into the triple measles, mumps and rubella vaccination has caused controversy that spans across the globe.

According to news reports, Dr. Wakefield stated that he had been asked to resign because of his research into a vaccine autism connection. He stated that he did not want to leave but he agreed to do so in the interest of his colleagues.

Dr. Wakefield has been testing the theory that measles virus from the MMR vaccine can produce inflammatory bowel disease, which then, via disruption of the chemical balance in the body and the brain, leads to autism. He was told that his ideas were unwelcome at the University College London, which controls the Royal Free Hospital Medical School.

His departure comes a month after he was made a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists in recognition for his research work.

The government had played down concerns since Dr. Wakefield published a paper in the Lancet in 1998, reporting that he and colleagues had identified an unknown combination of bowel damage and autism in children whose parents had said their previously normal children had fallen ill after receiving the triple dose MMR vaccination.
