According to recent news reports, an estimated 1.4 million Americans lost their health insurance coverage due to layoffs in the past year. Some sources say the numbers are even higher, closer to 2 million.

After layoffs, firms typically offer former employees a temporary policy that may cost an individual an average of a few hundred dollars per month. And when you’re not making money, $200-$400 in monthly fees often seems like a lot to pay for insurance.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the total number of uninsured now stands at 41 million. The number of young people (ages 18 to 34) without coverage is growing quickly — in 2002 it increased by 800,000 to a total of more than 16 million.

Over 40 million Americans are uninsured.

Some analysts have said it is a safe bet for the young to go without insurance while they are out of work. Let’s face it, if you’re going to pay about $250 a month for insurance just in case you get the flu and have to visit an MD, it can get expensive. If you did visit the doctor you’d still have your co-pay and deductible to meet. However, a good insurance policy does come in handy in crisis care situations. This is where medicine works best, addressing crisis care situations. It’s sick care really, not health care.

That’s where chiropractic comes in. Many people find that they actually save money on their health care expenses by seeing a chiropractor. You’re buying less drugs, relying less on MD’s, and you’re simply not as sick as often. All these things help you to save $$$. This is why so many self-employed workers choose chiropractic.

Another thing is that an entire week of care in an affordable chiropractic office may cost what you could pay for one visit in some other doctors offices, and that’s not including further care. Remember, those costs can add up very quickly.

If you are looking for health care that won’t cost you an arm and a leg, find a good chiropractor in your area that offers an affordable plan. Chances are there is an office near you that offers family plans and may even have plans for students or individuals that are out of work. Some offices even offer weekly, monthly, and/or yearly payment plans to better fit your budget.

Remember, the best investment you can make…is inside of you!
